Biography Of Neil Armstrong – The First Person On The Moon

Neil was an extraordinary man, with courage and determination to go into space. Anything could have happened. This remarkable feat has made Neil an inspiration for all. We are celebrating 50 years since our first moon landing.

Neil Alden Armstrong, born August 5, 1930, was born in Wapakoneta Ohio. He attended Blume School High School. Neil was fascinated by space and planes. At two years old, his father took Neil to Cleveland Air Races. He had his first flight in an airplane by age five. Young Neil was influenced by this experience. He was inspired by this experience and at sixteen he received his pilot’s license. He was a graduate of Purdue University and joined NASA. In 1962, his name was entered into the NASA astronaut program. He was Apollo 11’s spacecraft commander. He was with Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin and Michael Collins when he went into space. These are the names that will be remembered in history. They landed on the Moon on July 16, 1969. Armstrong took his first step onto the moon in the Lunar module at precisely 10:56 PM. He was brave to leave the spacecraft and put his life at risk. He said, “That was one small step by man, one great leap by man.”

Apollo 11 was returned on July 24, 1969. The U.S.S. took the courageous crew and aircraft. Hornet, as well as the brave astronauts, was taken to the United States. The crew was honored with numerous awards, including the Medal of Freedom as well as the Congressional Space Medal of Honour.

Neil, his second wife, was married years later and they had three children. Even as Neil grew older, he was still passionate about space exploration. Although he was shy, he returned to the public to express his concern about the U.S. Space Program’s changes in 2010. In 2005, he gave a 60-minute interview.
